Gerbils are quite cute but are more likely to bite you when you handle them and sometimes turn viciously on each other. Gerbils will get along with their own litter mates (unless they are separated, even for a short time) but not with gerbils that they didn't grow up with. Mice are a little more adaptable. On the other hand, gerbils are desert animals who don't poop and pee as much as mice do. Mice will leave their droppings everywhere and you will have to clean their cages more often. Whatever you do, make sure the mice or gerbils you get are all the same sec. Both species have a high rate of reproduction and mate promiscuously, including with their own children. Mating brings out the competition for mates. Also male mice emit a horrible odor when they are trying to attract a female. Take my word on this, you do not want to breed these little creatures! Have fun with whichever species you pick!

Personally, I love pet mice. They're sweet, cute, and cuddly. They don't have a very long life span, as I had M&M for 3 months before he died of old age. Then I'd gotten Bridgett, and she only lived for 4 days because my cats had knocked a case of pop on the shelf above her onto her cage. No, she didn't get squished, she just drank the pop!
Gerbils are adorable, and they live for longer. I haven't had a Gerbil, but I had a Teddy bear Hampster and he was EVIL. I was trying to change his cage litter and he bit the crap out of my finger. Pets are a lot of work, especially rodents because they require a lot of care and attention. Plus, you can't really take them to the vet when they get sick, so you just kind of feel helpless when they die.

I like gerbils better, mice are a little to small. Though, I don't really like gerbils. Hamsters are for me!

I prefer gerbils. I had them as a kid and my daughter has also had them. They are friendly and very active. We also taught them simple "tricks". Gerbils also seemed to play in their cages more than mice and were more entertaining.

i prefer mice becaz in 6th grade we had mice and gerbil for our snakes to eat ( i know i think it was sad) and from watching the mice are cooler and really smart and the gerbils were just dumb and ran into the walls... but I think gerbils look better so its up to you...

I think you should get a mouse. They are both very comparable, but more people buy gerbils for pets. The mice usually get fed to someones reptile.......save a mouse hehehe.

I have raised and interacted with both..... gerbils tend to bite if not messed with on a day to day basis......mice are a little more docile from day to day....I have 6 chinese hamsters right now and all of them are fine as long as you pick them up in a gentle way....otherwise they bite.......the most fun I have had though....is with rats ......smart...have feelings...... and are the most underated rodent on the face of the earth....get one !!

I definitey like gerbils better. I had both as a little kid. My mouse smelled really bad and always bit me when I held him and my gerbil never bit me and didn't smell.
