You don't know. I don't know. I do know that you should seek medical evaluation. Your age is an important factor as well—I still wouldn't know.

There are many reasons why this could happen so no one can tell you over the internet. Anytime there is an unusual change to your monthly periods, it is a good idea to see a gynecologist. Any bleeding lasting over 10 days is one of those reasons.

When ever something like your period changes so drastically...it is ALWAYS best to see your doctor...there could be several things that are going on. Never risk your health by waitng too long to see a doctor.

Could it be that you are using the IUD? But even then not good. Maybe is a clotting problem. Get checked out ASAP by a GYN Doctor.

Mine was due to a lack of progesterone production. It is called dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB).

Ask your doctor for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. I do not like doctors who prescribe birth control hormones for any feminine problems without testing first. When that happened to me - the Depo Provera shot he gave me switched me from low blood sugar to diabetes.

If it turns out to be low progesterone, e-mail me for info on how I stopped mine when they recurred.

No one can know for sure why, but I know it's not something you want to wait to see the doctor about. Go ASAP just to rule out anything serious. Take care~
