hi Indian passport starts with an alphabet and followed by 7numbers without any other characters... like A1234567
Please reverify, if you find difficult to find the passport no then tell your wife to go to the back side of the passport (the way Holy Quran is read) and read the no. it will be holed in at the back into the pages...

RE:
Is indian passport number format AJXXXX/X correct?
I need to file visa for my spouse and she is saying that her passport number is AJXXXX/X and it has been issued from lucknow. X is number. I have never seen "/" used in passport number.
Could this be a correct format?

This looks very wrong. I know never seen a passport number like this, there are no numbers just letters. I doubt this is correct or will be accpeted.

The presence of "/" is unlikely. If you have availed the services of an agent to have your passport made, or not applied yourself (by applicant) direct to the passport office, do get it verified from the passport office.
