I don't know about the fining over candy giving. However, costumes are, in my opinion, becoming more cute to relate to a wider customer base. This way, very young children, toddlers and infants can participate in a less scary way. This way, entire families can participate. Also, those who disagree with the "horror" of Halloween can now display another side and still dress up and enjoy festivities. Yes, it is taking from the original thought of Halloween.

No one even knows what emo is these days. Except the kid who gave the link "how to dress emo"... haha. Anyway, emo means "emotionally charged punk rock" and emo started out in the DC area with bands like Fugazi, Rites of Spring and Texas is the Reason.

She is probably referring to this new generation's understanding of "emo" - where you act depressed, have dyed black hair, cry all the time and slit your wrists. The girls have shorter hair and attitudes and the boys are often mistaken for gay because they are fashionable and waif-like. Similar to Euro-trash.

Get her a band teeshirt with an artsy design on it from one of those lame myspace designers (bleedingstarclothing.com), get some tight jeans, lots of black eyeliner, fake star tattoos (put on wrists or arms), a fake lip piercing and some "emo glasses" aka 60-style black-rimmed type. Librarian glasses. For added effect she could carry around a record... emo scenesters love to collect vinyl.

Good luck though, that's a tough one to pull off. It's like trying to dress up like a prep... how will they know whether it's a costume or really you? It's quite common these days. My boyfriend probably falls under the "emo" category if you need a visual example: http://onomatopoeic.net/about.php?photos

Man thats really tough.

I'd try something from a tim burton stop motion animation film. Like Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride. She could be the bride.

But maybe if you're in America it's not so hot.
(It's pretty cool in the UK, I think)

Any good bet would just be dark fairy type. With like, a pair of wings and a black lacey dress or something. If shes emo already she'll have stripey tights and converses. So yeah, like, black tootoo (spelling?) type dress. And a wand. And wings. Stripey tights and converses.

Expensive though.
Good luck

emo's are wanna be punks, they are rich kids who rebel by trying to copy the old punk movement, but are too wussy to do anything but buy expensive outfits and pretend they are cool. that lucas critter on the tv show super nova is an emo type, since he won it is obvioulsy a very popular fad. You could go old school and dress her up as edward scissor hands, that is kinda emo but better.

Ma'am EMO means that you are a whiner and melodramatic and listen to really bad music and wear sloppy clothing. She means she does not want to dress up for Halloween. overEMOtional

maybe a dark ladybug or some kind of cute insect. think antennae and wings and a whole lot of mascara. Check with her first and see if shes going to a halloween party or if she is just going out to with her friends to get in shaving cream fights.

Jeans, black band t-shirt, and other products, easily found at hottopic. black nailpolish would be a nice touch too.

this may not be what you thought she was talking about, just taking it since you said "cute" and "emo" in the same sentence.

haha good luck, and i hope i helped.
