No, I've heard of some mothers who have said there babes never slept. Maybe she's just glad to be out of the womb and gonna be real smart...taking in everything around her.

No it isn't . But I would make a ritual for your baby. Meaning bringing it to a nap or bed time on a regulary basis.
The company Johnson"& Johnson, has a Baby bubble bath out that has natural elements that are soothing to babies. So you should get this and when it's nap time or sleeping time, bath her with it. It willhelp her sleep. Also what is helpful, heat some milk, make it room temperature, put some honey in it. Shake it, let it cool and give it too the Baby. Then enzymes from the Milk and the honey will make the baby relax. if nothing else is working please make an appointment with a Pediatrician.
To soul: Go change your Doctor. Go to a local Pediatrician... Mucus does not sound good. It might have complications in it's lungs. But don't take me for granted ... Its just my common sense. Better safe than sorry.

This is normal for even 2 or 3 week old babies. my daughter did the same thing. She will pick a scheduled time to sleep and wake and all the fun things they do. ( she is now 8 ). but if by a month old or a little older ask a doctor every baby is different. by the way she picked her time when she was about 7months to a year old. I asked her doc and he said maybe she is afraid she will miss something. lol

I have the same problem. My daughter is 6 weeks old, and wakes up during any part of her napping to mucus in her throat. She snorts it out of her nose, but still doesn't help much. My Dr said she has a head cold, but this has been going on for 3 weeks now. She turns bright red and gets all stiff on us. I can't lay her in the crib because she'll wake up to it. We tried upright things, like the car seat, still she wakes up from it. I delivered cesearan also, but my Dr didn't say anything about excess mucus in their bodies. Have you learned or gotten any more help on this subject? I am curious as well.

If she is alert and everything else is fine, not only is it NOT harmful for her to be awake but it is excellent for brain development and often for language development too. (Talk to her lots). Babies have very individual sleep needs and if she wasn't getting enough sleep she would be irritable.

It is normal at first for a one week old child. After about one month and she still continues this routine, then make sure you check with her pediatrician.

If she is alert and happy then don't worry about it. She will nap when she is ready.
