i just bought a 1998 hardtail custom with a 1340 evo motor in it. when i test rode it was fine but as soon as we pulled it off the truck and i cranked her no throttle response its like it froze there. what in the world could cause this? i mean ive looked in the book and trouble shooted around the thing but cant budge it! it has a stock harley carb on it nothing aftermarket. thanks for your help in advance.

Its a harley it just seems like the throttle isnt turning. Eventually it'll accelerate.

If the twist grip won't move at all, make sure of two things:
1. The throttle lock isn't on
2. In transporting the bike, you didn't get something kinked or jammed at the pivot point of the throttle rod, you know, where the cable end down there is.

If the twist grip moves, but the throttle doesn't respond, the cable has either come off the carb, or the cable is broken.

Take off the air cleaner and the air cleaner backing plate and you should be able to see any of these problems.

BUT, make sure the throttle lock isn't tightened. First.

Let me know if that's not it.

Take it one step at a time -
-Where the cable attaches to the carb, can you move the linkage on the carb?
-Remove the cable from the throttle (handle bars), can you pull the cable and opperate the carb?
-With the cable removed from the throttle, can you turn the throttle?
Take it one step at a time. When you hit a road block, figure out why.

Has to be something with the cable binding or frozen up, replace the cable if you can't find where it is hanging up.
