If someone were wanting a tattoo could they get it without the use of a tattoo gun ? Liek say just a needle being stabbed repeatedly (to say it so crudely) into the skin so that it came out to be a permanant tattoo? And if you were wondering why I have this question its that I am planning on getting my first tattoo soon and I would rather not do it with a machine (got all my piercing from a needle not a gun, I like to keep my body modifications as natural as possible).

if you are looking for natural body modification, you need to do your homework. aside from hygenic reasons, it does not seem like a good idea for you to be placing permanent marks on your body without being properly informed. you chould definitely do some research on things such as the maori tribes in new zealand (those are the people with tattoos over 90% of their faces), as well as primitive african tribes that rely on tapping techniques - usually doen with a hammer-like instrument and a chiseled stick. you'd be surprised what they have in libraries nowadays. regardless, these 'natural' modifications are not usually done to yourself - you might want to practice on an orange first or something if you insist on not hiring a professional.

it is possible yes, but it can be very dangerous. tattoos were originally done with a pointy thorn dipped with ink. you can use basically anything sharp. the reason not to do this though is that if you penetrate too deep, you can get ink poisoning, or if it is really to deep you run the risk of infection. either one can kill you. if it is too shallow, your tattoo will not last. the machine that does it at a shop is made to go only a certain depth. this will also deliver a more even and over all better image. go with the machine, or find someone who specializes in giving non-machined tattoos. don't try it yourself.

ink and needle does work, my husband has a small tattoo on his leg that was done that way (it's horrible). Traditional tribal and Chinese art is done that way. The challenge will be finding a tattoo artist who can do a quality job for you

Of course it is possible. What do you think they did before machines were invented. Some cultures still use needles. It is very painful from what I understand. Watch the learning channel sometimes they have shows about it.

Oh heck yeah, you can give yourself a tattoo with staples and ash. That's a common thing they do in prison.

But it is realllllly unhealthy and unsanitary. I would suggest getting a professional to do it at a palor or with a professional needle.

yeah, it's possible, but not really recommended. you will probably most definintely scar. with a machine, the needle can be controlled more and you will not have ugly scarring on your skin. Are you 18+? if not, I would suggest you wait...

There are a lot of ways and a lot of debate as to which is best. You should try watching those shows on TV about this, very educational.
