A reason for not adding a male betta would be that i really like my guppies and most male bettas tend to be fin nippers as i have researched...

Yes, you can put FEMALE bettas with other community fish. A lot of people think that just because it is a betta it will kill other fish. That is only the male bettas. I have two female bettas in my 20 gal. tank with many other fish, and they are all fine together. I also have a male betta, and he is alone in a tank. You can never put males with any other fish, unless you are breeding them with the female bettas. Then, after they are finished breeding you must remove the female because the male will bully her. I wouldn't worry about putting the females with other COMMUNITY fish. They should be fine together.

And some of these idiots say a betta can kill the other fish! Bettas only murder EACH OTHER. And females can be with ANY other fish, if they aren't aggressive! Put the betta next to your tank for a while. If it acts either too crazy or too shy, don't put it in! If it seems curious yet not aggressive, put it in. It's that simple!

Yes female Betta's can be with any fresh water fish that are not aggressive. Sounds like your tank is perfect for one. Betta's are only aggressive if you put more than one male together. Good rule of thumb is 1 fish\gallon.

Female bettas (pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah) can be kept with other non-agressive fish and with other female bettas. Only the males will fight, and only with each other.
The only problem I see would be the betta would eat your baby guppies unless you provide a lot of plant cover for them to hide in. A breeding net is the next best option for saving the babies.

yes u can, the female bettas are harmless, the male bettas also(just with fish that are not of their specie or with females), just if you put 2 male bettas in the same tank, then there are gonna b problems cuz they'll fight.

I wouldnt recomend it even though it sometimes works, betas are naturally aggressive where as guppys are passive fish, she may just kill them off... you are better to place them with more aggressive fish, I have been successful with placing them with neon tetras and mollys and guppys.. but it doesnt always works out,
they are really territorial and will bite, nip, headbutt and chase fish that come into their part of the tank..
anyway its up to you, you could try it and if it doesnt work you can always go and get more fish lol...

If you want to kill those guppies, then that's fine...I think that the Bettas are far more aggressive, so they wouldn't make good roomies.
