I accepted a sales executive position with a large telecom company. My first day they asked me to drive to a customer meeting which was 275 miles from the local corporate office. On the second day I met with my supervisor and by the end of the day I realized that I had made a mistake taking that job. I called first thing on the third day and resigned stating that this was not the job I thought it was going to be. The supervisor states that they will pay me for the two days worked but that they will not reimbuse me for my mileage expense. Can they legally do this? Don't they owe me for expenses incurred working the position?

File a small claims action against them. They'll probably default.

It depends. If they agreed to give you an expense account the covers these things then yes they owe you but if not then I don't think they have to cover the expenses

They should reimburse you at least .48 per mile since that is the going rate (Federal).

I am assuming you did NOT sign anything to work as an independent contractor...

yes they owe you if you used your own car for the travel.

Contact accounts payable and ask for a employee reimbursment form and fill it out and send it in.
If not you write them a demand letter for the money and then if not you sue them in small claims court

You would probably have to ask an attorney. I believe if they stated they would pay you, then they have to. (for the mileage).
