Hire a professional. Well, I assume everything is working well?
If everything is working well you'll save money hiring a professional to winterize "with a guarantee". It's actually quite difficult if your ambient temp drops below about 20 degrees F. The colder it get's the tougher it gets.
You'll get more than your money's worth if you find and contract a year round sprinkler "plumber". Just check with your neighbors.

There is not much you cn do to winterize.. What I do is put an old blanket that I have.. open up the valve box and stuff the blanket on top and around the pipes in the valve box...It is usually a green box.... I do not know where you live but here we still run the water for the plants in the cold times.. plants do c ontinue to live and need some water but much less

Turn the programmer off if you have one. Shut the water off to the system and then force the water out of the lines with air pressure.

If you live where it will freeze, you need to blow all the water out of the pipes. You need to have an irrigation company do it as you won't have a compressor with enough pressure.
