I don't know if there is going to be a tornado in Ponca City, but I do know why they tell you to get in the closet during a tornado......

It makes it easier to find the bodies.

No a tornado watch means keep an eye to the sky because the conditions are favorable for the formation of a tornado.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with being online when there is a tornado WATCH.

Especially if you are monitoring your local conditions from your area's National Weather Service office's website. --> www.weather.gov

However, asking the world if you will have a tornado is not quite as beneficial as perhaps watching your local news. I hear Gary England out of OKC is pretty good.

My question to you is... was there a tornado??

A tornado watch just means the CONDITIONS are right for a funnel cloud to form. when its says tornado warning, it means that a torndao has been spotted, a funnel cloud has formed or a tornado has touched down in that warnings area, Also look out for a green, swirling sky. It means that a tornado could form. To be safe go onto www.weather.com and type in ur zip code for uptodate info on ur area and any precautions u should know about.

not in ponca city. but a watch only means the condition is right for a tornado it doesnt mean there will be one. a warning means one has been seen or is visible on radar. what ever it is go to shelter immediatly

Go here, and click on where you live.
http://www.weather.gov/

After you click, you'll be zoomed in more and you'll see what products have been issued for your area. Remember that WARNINGS are for stuff actually happening now and a watch means that conditions are favorable--but the condition isn't happening yet. If you look around on that page a bit, you'll see the actual radar imagery too--this will show you where the storms are.

I also like looking at the following places to see what warnings have been issued, but then again this stuff is sort of my hobby / career.

This is why people die from tornadic destruction. You shouldn't be online if a tornado is possible for your area.

Listen to the radio.
Watch TV.
Stay off your damn computer.

For someone from Oklahoma, you don't know much about weather safety.

When you see that your area has a tornado WARNIng...that is when a tornado or funnel cloud has actually been spotted. Watch just means the conditons are favorable for one! So you are fine right now but keep the TV on!!!

Keep the TV tuned to the weather channel.
If you loose power, you should have a battery powered radio.
Find shelter (underground) immediately. Be Careful!!!
