Stain it with tea, juice, or soup (depending on what color the old one was) and run it through the washer. Tell her it got washed if she notices it looks like it is in better shape than before. You could also purchase a strong-smelling new laundry soap or fabric softener that she will notice and tell her you are washing the toy with it. When it comes out looking better than before blame it on the new laundry product.

I herd of a desprate mother wanting to replace a ragged stuffy sprinking it with fairy dust (baby powder) and putting it in a box - and taking a magicly renewed one out the next morning. Maybe some similar magic? Maybe have the fairy dust magicly make it appear in the car all renewed.

if she lost it that long ago she can probably live without it. but in the case of an emergency go with their answers I like the stain with tea.
