if you are talking about the Timing Belt, Change it no later thatn 80.000 miles.
if you are talking about the fan belt, Whange it when tiny cracks start to appear.
If you have your car serviced and they tell you that you have a cracked fan belt, they are lying. that is a standart ply used by agencies and lube places.

Hi,
It may also be called the cam-belt. Assuming an OHC engine.
if so, dead easy, buy a new cam-belt for the thing, Remove the side cover, (a few little bolts, usually), don't fiddle with the top of bottom pulleys, or the valve timing will go all to heck, slacken off the tensioner arrangement, (the thing on a spring) and remove the knackered offending item.
Stick the new one in place, again without moving anything that looks important, and re-adjust the springy tensioner so that there is a bt of nice push-pull of about 1" on the new belt.
That should do it. Oh, put the plastic cover back in place.
This from someone who is far from a motor mechanic, but from someone that has done it successfuly.
If you refer to some other belt/cog-like gizmo, then I'm afraid I am devoid of a suggestion.
Anyway, best of luck.

I suggest every five years but if hairline cracks are showing in the serpentine belt be sure to replace now
