Well, I'm not sure what you are asking, but humans seem to be in the process of using their minds to overcome their natural instincts for reproduction, survival, power, and food. I think once we are able to control these urges and approach life rationally, i.e. take care of our Earth and care for one another without the need for having power over the other, than perhaps things will get better and we, as a species, will be moving in the right direction, but for now, we are still at the point where either we will be like the civilizations we see depicted in such shows as Star Trek, or destroy ourselves and our Earth.

In my opinion, we are leading ourselves to the success and development. Only there are few instances that we need to understand and circumtances that require courage and acceptance.
