A few weeks ago I tried to commit suicide by jumping over a 50 foot high ledge to the concrete below. I was held back by 3 security guards, who I nearly took with me. As I went to make my jump he shouted out my name in one continuous note for 30 seconds or more. When I was pulled to safety he was crying and told me "Mark, I thought I was going to see my best friend die today"
The reason for my attempted suicide is that I am in the middle of a relationship breakdown. I did a self referal to a psychiatric hospital and have since recovered and my feelings about trying or even commiting suicide have gone. Just after my discharge from hospital my friend (he is 22 and I am 46) has taken to listening to my heart saying that he wants to hear the one precious thing that is keeping me alive. He does this each time we have a cuddle. He cannot explain to me why he has taken to listening to my heart except that he was very shocked and upset that he might have lost me to death.

I should now explain that the relationship that is breaking is more involved than what I say above. Somehow (can't explain why or how this happened) my friend was involved with the SAME person as I am currently involved with but did not realise that I was the first on the scene. My friend has pulled back on the friendship with the other person and we are both going to see this person once more before this person moves to Australia (Thus the break up).

I will be chosing a best answer, but please bear in mind this is going to be tough so if I don't choose your answer as best answer it is not because I don't think that your answer isn't worthy of the best answer it is because Yahoo will only let me choose the one. I will not be putting this to the vote as this will be unfair to those already contributed to this question. I may ask another question to help me decide. Thank you, all of you.

This friend obviously loves you very much. In listening to your heart he is confirming the fact that you are still with him, still alive and it must be a comfort to him.
If it makes you uncomfortable then speak to him and tell him that you no longer feel the need to take your own life, reassure him that he's not going to (almost) lose you again.

Ok... so hes a guy and from your name I'm guessing you are too. If I had a male friend that cuddled me and put his head to my chest then I would worry about him!! Maybe this younger man has a crush on you. Or maybe he is genuinely worried. If thats the case, just tell him straight that you have no more silly ideas about taking the 1 and only real gift you have- your Life. Remember that you are unique and very special. No one but you can take that away.

when u make an atempt like such >>your friend must have realized that you were in need of him >>> and he didn';t know how important u 2 were 2 each I am also glad that you were smart enough to get help >>> don't wait that long ever again >love yourself >>> and remember who you are leaving behind , the whole point is:: who is great enough to make u try and take away the every breath you take >> learn to love yourself> yes I am repeating this because if u don't know how 2 love yourself how can u expect to have a real relationship with any one ,,""""

Well, your friend clearly hasn't gotten over the fact that he almost saw you die. Can't blame him can you? I think he should get some help. In a way he's a victim in all of this and he should do something with all the feelings he has inside of him.

Not to be funny, but you should see about a 2 for 1 rate at the hospital.

he wants u to know that u always have something to live for. but never let some one push u to suicide. its not worth it. the only thing that will do is make that person guilty and ur family and friends sad.
