Adam and Eve are mythical characters that appeared in various local legends in the ancient Near East. The old Hebrew poets that collected the material from local legends that appears in what we now call the Old Testament inserted two versions of the "Adam and Eve" story in the document that is now sometimes called "Genesis."

If you study Genesis with some detachment, you will notice that "Chapter One" and "Chapter Two" are two versions of the same story, with slight variations. The editors that compiled the material were giving examples of local legends about the creation of the familiar world, and it would never have occurred to them that someone would someday be so moronic as to read that material as a literal account of creation.

Hah! Those old scholars would crack up if they heard modern day fundamentalists try to shoehorn those old stories into a description of reality.

Nobody took any of the Bible literally until hundreds of years after the Hebrew scholars wrote down the Genesis myths around 600 years BCE.

So yes and no, they didn't have belly buttons, because they were not real people, but only mythical characters. If you can't handle that, sorry. But you open yourself to the hysterical laughter of the ancient Yahwistic Rabbis.

This question actually belongs under something like "legends and superstitions," rather than "history."

The fig leaf that is often seen in paintings to cover the subject's genitals were actually first used on pictures of adam and eve--not to cover their genitals, but to cover the area where the belly button would be, because the artists didn't (and still don't) know whether or not they had umbilici.

This comparable way grow for use to create Adam and Eve. that isn't the 1st international God has created nor will that's the final. Adam and Eve have been a continuation of life from yet another international created by potential of God. do all of us understand who rather Adam's mum and dad have been? No, yet purely like a prior answer mentioned interior the top that is not correct to our salvation and mulling over it won't deliver us nearer to God.
