bottled spring water is best since you don't have to worry about contamination in tap water (There is also phosphates in tap water that promote algae growth). Change 25% of the water every other week with a gravel siphon to remove large bits of fish waste.

if your going to put a goldfish in a tank you have to fill it with tap water and turn the tank on and let it run for a few days before putting any fish in then when you get the fish open the bad and let the bag float in the tank for 15 min WITHOUT ANY TANK WATER GETTING IN IT then take a small cup of tank water and poor it into the bag the fish is in wait 15 more min and then with a net take the fish out of the bag and put it in the tank that way the fish can adapt to the changes of the water and has a better chance of living where as if u were to mix the fish store water and tank water will cause desiease

You should put just plain tap water in their bowl. They will be just fine with that. You just need to make sure that you let the water get to room tempurature. On the cleaning situation, it really depends on different factors. If you have a filter then probably about once every 2 to 2 and half weeks. If the are in a bowl with no filter then once every week. It also depends on how much you feed them, and how much they eat. Just look at the water and when it looks cloudy you need to chage the water.

Put room tempurature water into the tank. Clean the tank at least once a month, you can clean it more if you like. This is what I did with my fish and it lived to be 3 years old.

Tap water that has been sitting out for 24 hours so it dechlorinates. Water changes depend on the size of the tank and the amount of fish and the filtration system. A partial change every week should be sufficient.
