It is fine to keep them together. Just make sure there is plenty of food and water in the cage. If this is the first litter, the mom or dad rat could eat the babies.
We used to breed rats and had 4 females and 1 male in the cages. We never separated them out and rarely had a problem.

You should take the male rat out the females cage because he might eat the babies.

i am a vet so i know that it depends on the behavior of the male rat. for safty reasons i would take the male out of the cage or find something to seperate the cage in half. for 1-2 days keep a close watch on the male because i had a very nice male hamster that didnt bite or anything and the female had babies and on the second day he killed one of the babies so keep a close eye on them

You can keep the male in the cage but you shouldn't. They don't eat babies but they tend to be clumsy and simply walk over them. Not fatal but not nice. Also, he will be pestering the mother rat to mate all the time when she is trying to heal up and take care of the babies. If you don't take him out be prepared for another litter soon.

nicely, this could be a no-brainer. in case you have a lonely male, and stick him with 3 women persons, what do think of will take place? he will mate with the mummy and daughters, and you will finally end up with deformed, imbred creatures.
