I don't want to simplify my answer but let me first say this. You can do well on college exams by studying.

When it comes to multiple choice, the best thing to do is first eliminate obvious wrong answers. That way, if you have to guess you improve you chance of gussing right.

When it comes to essay questions do the simple thing and answer the question. I don't want to sound obvious but answer the question. Don't read too much into it. Don't give any information that isn't asked for.

I don't know where you go to college but when I was in school, there were some teachers who kept old tests on file at the school library so you could see what kind of questions they ask.

Just like in high school you can ask your classmates that have already had the class. Perhaps they have a copy of a test they took with that same teacher a prior semester. I remember when I took a class for my anthropology minor. I asked this girl I knew if she had an old test. She did. At the bottom the the first page she wrote the word "braciation" because the teacher forgot to put that on the test. When he walked into class that day he wrote that word on the borad. I knew then that he was giving the same test that she took the previous semester. I almost passed out! It was the same test. I still had to answer the essay questions but knew my stuff. When we got the test back I scored 100! I set the curve! I almost passed out again!

Listen intently in class. If the teacher is rambling on and on about something he/she likes, it will likely appear on a test.

Good luck with your studies.

College teachers usually keep copies of old tests at your school library for reference. You can't take it with you, but you can make a quick xerox of it, to study.

Essays sound scary, if you have to write pages and pages. Sometimes teachers just refer to essay answers as answers you answer in paragraph form. Like in history class, we had to do that; the teacher didn't care about how well you wrote, but more of how well you answered the question.

As far as essays that are multiple pages, that's "writing" which is hard to help with, but you will find help if you put in effort.
