Sure is. It could take another week or two, or you might not dilate at all. Every woman and every pregnancy is different. Just hang in there, and before you know it you'll have that sweet baby (and sleepless nights, wet/dirty diapers, and a post-pregnancy belly to contend with!!)

If this is your first pregnancy, chances are good you won't dialate at all until you are well into the first stages of labor. The cervix must soften before it dialates, which is called effacement. In first pregnancies, this happens first, and then dialation begins. In later pregnancies it happens at the same time, and a little before delivery as a general rule. Some ladies can dialate up to 3 cm without even realizing it. At 38 weeks you still have time to go- 40 to 42 weeks is the normal length of pregnancy- you could have as long as a month to go. You might dialate a little before that, you might not. Pregnancy and delivery is pretty individual, it's not a one size fits all situation. Relax, start walking to get baby down into position to press on the cervix. When labor starts, keep walking or at least sitting up to keep that baby's head down on the cervix. Gravity pulling the head downwards will help speed the process a bit, but as grandma always said- the apple drops off the tree when the apple is good and ready. You can't shake a green apple off the tree easily, and even if you can it isn't good for the apple. Don't get to hung up on the dates thing- the baby picks the date and time, and your baby doesn't have a calendar in there. He/she will arrive when the time is right, and you'll dialate or not when it's necessary. No point worrying about that until it's time.

Yes it is ok. Most people have dialated a little bit by now, but your body is not ready yet. Unless you know THE day you became pregnant, you really don't know exactly how far you are. Meaning you could be almost a week off, so your body is just not ready for things to happen yet. So many drs now days want to induce before your body is ready and because of that, so many babies have a little harder time in the beginning. Just let it go. It you do go too far (like 2 weeks over), they really want to take it then, because sometimes your body doesn't want to work right. Try not to worry, and just let nature take care of it. Good luck!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You still have a couple weeks and if still no progress, you're doctor will help you either by inucing labor or do a C section. It'll all be okay! And congrats on your baby!!
