Every see that character called "Philosophy Man?"
Its for 7th graders. Its a super hero trying to decide his sexual preference, as he is called to do CPR on people, and he tries crossdressing, and using both boys/girls washrooms.
the problem is that philosophy man thinks about every different angle, and nuance and all possibilities SO much, that he ends up androgenous, and thus the Sat night live character...Pat

I don't know about the cartoon & TV answer, but the series of books by Anne McCaffrey; "The Dragon Riders Of Pern" were both my, and my son's, favorites at this age.
