The Marlins made MLB history when they started six rookies in their Opening Day lineup. Critics were saying that the Marlins would lose more than 100 games this season and be in last place. The Marlins started losing games, just as people predicted; by May 22, they reached a record of 11 wins and 31 losses. Although the Marlins kept losing games, people had voted Miguel Cabrera and rookie Dan Uggla to the All-Star Game. Though Uggla did not play in the All-Star game, he became the first Rule 5 draftee to be selected for an All-Star team in the next year after he was taken in the Rule 5 draft.

Since the All-Star break, the Marlins have come back to break franchise records and MLB records altogether. They came back from 11-31 to reach the .500 mark at 68-68. No team has come back to the .500 mark from being 20 games under since 1899.
On September 6th, rookie Anibal Sanchez pitched the fourth no-hitter in franchise history

It is so sad when I see their stadium empty game after game. I don't understand it. Miami is a big market. The Heat and the Dolphins are both popular. They have a chance to go to the playoffs. What they are doing is really incredible. If they want to keep the franchise in Miami then they need to do something.

I am a Cardinals fan, never before been a Marlins fan, but I too am impressed with them this year. I hope they do win the wild card. I find it really encouraging and exciting to see the team that has the lowest payroll in baseball (15 mil!) fighting for a playoff position. Besides, I always have a soft spot for the 'underdogs'! I saw the Marlins play in St. Louis and really enjoyed watching them play, great game! I can't imagine why their stadium would not be packed, if they had fans like we do in St. louis there would not be an empty seat. Come on Florida, have some pride in your team, they have a great thing going!

I'm a Rangers fan and I have to agree with you that fair weather fans are just lacking a love of the game for the sake of the game. Texas has no chance to get to the play offs but I don't let it keep me from watching them play. I think if more people loved the game just because it's a beautiful game and attended games then the teams would respond as well and you'd see a lot tighter of a race in the majors.

i'm a reds fan since i live in the cincinnati area. but the marlins have had an awesome turnaround especially when you consider how young they are. i wish them all the best in getting to the postseason since my reds are more than likely out of it now.
