Cradles aren't dangerous at all, if used properly. The main thing with them (and with bassinets) is that when your baby has learned to roll over on his own, or starts to try to sit up, it's time to stop using it.
The danger comes because some parents leave the bby to sleep in the cradle after they have passed that milestone, and then they are practicing sitting up or whatever, pull on the sides, get the cradle to rocking on their own, and can possibly tip is enough to fall out.
If you are in a situation where you can only buy one or the other, then definately go for the crib. A convertible crib might be your best bet, because they can transition from an infants crib to a toddler bed, to a full-size bed.
But if you are able to buy one of each, I would definately reccomend getting them both. That way, you could go ahead and set the crib up in the nursurey, and put the cradle (or bassient or co-sleeper) in your bedroom, so that the baby is close for those middle of the night feedings.

If you are buying one or the other I say go with a crib because it will last longer. I think that the crib would be a safer choice also. I think that once that the baby gets a little older you are going to need a crib so why buy both of them when the cradle won't last long anyway. Cradle just a waste of money.

My mom had a baby, when I was like 14, so I loved the baby to death and took care of her. So...when they are infants cradles are really nice, you can bring them in your room easily and move them around. They are usually really safe. If it seams un sturdy don't buy it! Once they get a few months and are out of your room or get bigger a crib is the way to go! Hope this helps!

Cradles are wonderful if your breast feeding. You can keep it right next to your bed at night. If your not than a crib would be of best interest. More room to grow and last much longer.

definately a crib over a cradle...why buy something to have to buy something else to replace in a few months. unless you can find a used one cheap. i used a borrowed bassinet in our room. another option is a portable crib/pack n play, with bassinet that goes 1/2 way down. that would have been my choice had someone not borrowed me the bas.
plus for whatever reason, both my kids slept better once i moved them to their crib

It depends on how old your infant is and if they can pull up on their hands and knees if not than a bassinet is the way to go as it makes them feel more secure. A crib is for an older infant not a newborn as it is too big and they feel scared
