Yes, it's very true. Don't listen to these PC fanboys that want you to think otherwise. I have been using Mac OS X "Tiger" for nearly two years and I have YET to see any viruses or spyware. And yes, it IS because OS X is more secure, not due to lack of users. In fact, I have an article here which specifically outlines the exact reasons why OS X is more secure and where it is secure in comparison to Windows. The link is below.

xeonxr6, I think you need to read on these things first...
YES! Macs do get spyware/adware/viruses/malware/grayware .
The newer Mac OS, the more the chance.
Macs do NOT have build in antivuris and spyware protection, (Well, at least not OS 9) and Macs do NOT have a very good firewall.
People dont program as many viruses for Macs simply because there are not that many users of Macs. Thats all there is to it.

OSX doesnt get spyware or viruses due to its complicated codebase #1, and #2 its not seen as a "worthwile" venture for hackers and such cause the amount of people running mac's versus the amount of people running PC's is so much lower. Why target the smallest part if its going to be much harder to do it anyways?

No, it's just that there are fewer attacks against it because it is not a mainstream OS.
If it gets more popular, the spyware writers will attack it more because there is money in it.
