If the pH of the water is neutral or below the majority of fry will be female. High pH = majority male fry. People living in Southern states can breed Betta's outside because the water stays warm enough outside. Betta's eat mosquitoes and larvae.
Inside tank, air- but not very fast flow, male makes a bubble nest, as soon as female lays the eggs- remove her to another area or she will eat the fry. Feed the fry either live brine shrimp or frozen baby brine. After the fry get to a certain size, remove the male or he will eat them. Takes the fish at least 5 months to get the tail.
Whatever is used for breeding, make sure the tank is heavily planted with horn wort, anacharis or some other easy growing oxygenating/nitrite removing plant. Have a lot of fun.

You do NOT separate the male, you remove the females. The male is the one that tends the eggs and the bubble nest. If you remove him your females will simply eat the eggs. Make sure you are not using any type of bubbling filters that would disturb the surface of the water. Make some small pieces of floating plastic plant available for the male to use to help stabilize the bubble nest that he will make. When a female is getting close to being ready to lay eggs the forward part of her belly will have a bulge. When she is ready the male will wrap around her and squeeze (at least that is what it looks like) the eggs out and fertilize them. Then he will capture the falling eggs and gently put them into the bubble nest on the surface of the water. When mating is done he will see the female as an intruder and a danger to his eggs so you have to remove her. She will be in no shape to escape him and he will attack her.

do not declare to be an expert in breeding betta fish. All i have performed is accumulated tips i have researched with reference to the breeding of those eye-catching fish. In my analyze, there have been quite captivating issues that i have got here across about a thanks to reproduce betta fish. For a initiate, you desire a lady betta fish. those are especially complicated to come back through. maximum petstores in worry-free words inventory the more beneficial flamboyant male bettas. even if, in case you seek for complicated adequate on the internet, or ask your community petstore nicely, they shall be pointed interior the right direction. lady betta fish are especially boring compared to their male opposite numbers. some are especially colourful yet their fins are many times lots shorter than the boys. it really is likewise plausible to maintain lady betta fish mutually in an aquarium while you won't be able to attempt this with men (in reality, you mustn't keep the female betta with the male both - or something that even seems remotely like a male betta eg fantail guppies - they are going to be attacked).

If I remember correctly, you need a male and a female, then after the deed is done, you'll need to separate the female by putting her into a breeding cage that you attach inside the aquarium. Something like that. My ex used to breed them--but I can't find his betta book--probably threw it out when I kicked him to the curb! But, seriously, there are lots of good books out there. Good luck.

Successfully breeding bettas requires more space that I have here. You need a lot of prep, and space for over 100 offspring. A good place to start is bettatalk.

you have to raise the temperature to around 80-85ish and put a female or two in the tank with hiding spots...the male will flare up, chase her, and even nip at her and sometimess really beat her up...the male will also make a bubble nest at the surface of the water (make sure the water isnt too rapid)..he will eventually make the female submit and spawn...she will release eggs and the male will spit them into the bubble nest..once the female is done layin eggs carefully remove her without messing up the bubble nest..the dad will tend to the eggs until they hatch and he will also tend to the fry for a little while but dont him in with the fry too long or he will start looking at them as food...fry take about 5 or 6 months to start to mature.......good luck

If you are going to breed, you need more then one female. The females are smaller, so give them a place where they can retreat and he can't get there!

You will definately need a tank! Make sure there are plenty of places for the fry (babies to hide or they will get eaten).

Good Luck
