Some states like Oklahoma, etc., allow 16 year olds to get married if the parent signs. So, as long as its legal, the military has no business regulating it.

Not illegal if the parents sign. But probably not smart. Not sure how much a 16 year old knows about commitment and marriage. Not to mention about holding down the fort while hes away. At 16 your still courious and the chances of her cheating are greater. Not sayin she will, just sayin the younger ones tend to still want to sew their wild oats. And a military wife has a greater responsability if her husband leaves then the average wife........more responsability than a young gal should take on. So legal or illegal isnt the question.....should be is my friend making a mistake? The answer is YES. I give it 5 months.

The view point of the military on cases like this is, so long as the state they live in says that the marriage would be legal, then sure. Marry if you want. The military does not have a legal age limit.

The concept of legal age is a limitation set by law that specifies that only people that have reached a certain age are allowed to marry. These ages differ from state to state, and sometimes have special exceptions.
He can marry legally in the state where he lives or she lives. Some states have residency length requirement.
Usually legal age is 18. Most states, however, allow marriage at a younger age (15 to 18) with parental and/or judicial consent. Some states allow marriage at a still younger age if the female is pregnant. (Nationally, few marry under the age of twenty.)
But it is very young age for the marriage and divorce rate is about 99 percent.

Not trying to be mean, but is something wrong with him? I mean most grown men seek more in intelligence than a 16 year old can give them. Maybe he should see a therapist. And if her parents are willing to sign off on this maybe she should be in the custody of DSS.
