I never served and would never put down a veteran. My father in law was a vet and my uncles WWII. It is a shame that the Vietnam vets had to fight like mad to be recognized just because USA didn't win the war, their lives were changed forever because of their 2 year commitment, they were drafted remember didn't choose to go there but were ordered just babies for goodness sake a little recognition ans veteran's pay is all they asked for. I have seen many documentaries and read alot on the horrors they had to face, in those trenches and I pray that war is irradicated from the face of the world, how do we do this?
We are now teaching our young parents not to spank less our children grow up to be abusive and then we teach them to kill and so on. Everything makes no sense all around, we should be examples and peace keepers without using force. If such a feat can be accomplished no one has achieved it yet. God help us all.

What are you talking about? One of the largest anti-war movements during Vietnam was from within the military itself. Countless Vietnam veterans were at the very core of the movement and the protests from within the military were instrumental in the ending of that war.
Also, most liberals (ie the majority that aren't non-extremist wackos) don't put down war veterans but rather support them for their noble sacrifice and for their willingness to do their duty in the face of such a politically troublesome time. We simply want them to be here in the US rather than fighting a war we feel is unjust and serves no real purpose.

It is different in California.
We have both the most veterans and the most residents in the military. We also have the largest Reserve force.
Combine that with the most Military installations and the most liberals. And you get over 3 million people that would love to kill the enemy while smoking a joint.

Liar. A lot of people who consider themselves liberal, primarily to distance themselves from the idiots who claim to be conservative but just hate everyone else, served in the military and some serve in Iraq right now. Being liberal does not mean you oppose war; we should have gone into Bosnia to stop the genocide, but the conservatives blocked that because there was no economic reason, just human justice reasons. The conservatives go to war for economic reasons or to direct attention away from what they are screwing up somewhere else.

She was speaking the truth of what happened. So was the person who was awarded "Best Answer."
George W. Bush did not serve in the military, yet continues to send thousands of our young wo/men to war to fight what has become a "civil" war. And he has no plans for withdrawal, stating things like, "We will stay the course...." Many Americans are patriotic AND against this war.
Meanwhile, this president continues to erode our civil liberties. Wake up, and smell the coffee, and get your facts straight. Listen to the Lehrer News Hour or the BBC.

liberals don't believe in war that is why they put down the military they think it wrong to fight in the war. They think also are not for women rights they think they should be working and get equal pay. The other thing they think they don't stand up for some of the problems we face in the work force.

Hey, Proud American, are you a veteran? Or are you a chicken hawk like your heros - George and Dick and Donny?
BTW, nothing she wrote in that entry is wrong or is putting down war veterans. It IS an accurate reflection of how the President keeps himself "safe" (isolated!) from the people who disagree with him.
I'm a liberal and I served during Vietnam. My husband is a liberal and he served then, too.
And we both think that Bush was wrong to start this war, and is screwing it up.
The brave people in the armed services are doing the best they can in VERY trying circumstances, and the best thing we can do is demand that Bush and his gang of chicken hawks give them better leadership, planning, support, equipment, and training. And, he should be supporting them with diplomacy, too! Not with torture! Not with defying - or "clairfying" - the Geneva Conventions!

I'm an extreme liberal, and I did 8 years.
And if memory serves, the last major democratic candidate for president was a decorated vietnam war veteran, while the current president was a reservist who skipped his monthly drills. And it was the republicans who attacked the war veteran, not the democrats.
