It could be good or bad, an ill person released from pain or a tragic and untimely accident.

What were the circumstances and how did you feel witnessing something as emotional as death?

Yes, two. My mother and my father. First my father, who had cancer and then seven and a half years later my mother. She died of the effects of a brain hemorrhage. It was on the one hand awful and on the other hand a relieve for they were both in a lot of pain and their situation was hopeless. I am glad I was there when they died for I would never have wanted them to die alone. It was heartbreaking though and it took me a long time to re cooperate from my father's death. My mother died may third this year so I'm still in a blur about that. I am glad I was with her though, holding her and encouraging her to let go of life and move on. Even if someone wants to go it still can be quite hard for them to actually let go. Right after she died she looked completely at ease and somehow happy. I do think they're better off now but it's been quite hard to deal with the fact that I can't talk to them or call them. I think witnessing my parents dying was one of the most intimate moments I've ever shared with them. I still love my parents very much.
Edit: My god, Jen how horrible! How did you cope with that. The loss of a child, even if it wasn't your own son, it's still awfull. How brave of his mother to turn of the life support system. Good luck to both of you dealing with the loss.

Yes, I have witnessed it many times, I work in a nursing home, The people were most often quite old and sickly, once there was a 38 year old with cancer wishing only to make it to her daughters graduation, it did not happen. It was a humbling experience, just a reminder that we are not here forever, and one day we will experience the same. SO very sad!

I had to hold and watch my 6 month old nephew die after his father beat him almost to death. After 2 days on support, the baby had 3 strokes that caused him to lose brain function. After that , my sister removed life support. A few hours later he was gone.

I was more ticked off than anything because the entire situation never should have happened. It was very upsetting.

I saw with my Father when he took is last breath. (it will be 15 yrs ago--11-15) He had Alzheimer's and I was glad he wasn't suffering but very sad that he died. I watched the clock and said 2:43pm--he wanted no heroics done and we (my family) granted his wishes.
Then on July 3rd '06, my 12 yr old male Lhasa Apso, died in my arms--I cried and cried and cried and I still do. I didn't even cry that much when my abusive husband died because my dog loved me unconditionally. I sat up with him the entire weekend and I'd do it again in a heartbeat to loose sleep and not eat--but 9 days later, I adopted a 2 1/2 yr old pure bred chihuahua (as seen in my pic!!
If they allow animals to be put to sleep to end their pain and suffering, then humans should be allowed to do the same with their life!

Yes I have, I am an industrial first aid attendent and our job is to attended when an employee has a serious accident or medical condition like a heart attack. I don't feel good about it as you always wonder if there was more you could do for them.

Yes. I was in the hospital room when my great-grandmother passed away. She and I were really close and I felt that I needed to be there with her. A lot of my family had spent the last several days there. It was very hard to watch her slip away, but it was what I needed. She had had dementia for a couple of years before her death and wasn't herself.

My father, in fact, I had to request they cease CPR on him, the hardest thing I have ever done. The people in the ER were very respectful. Nothing mystical or magical happened, it was kinda sad, but he lived a long and happy life.

I found a fresh corpse one time at a motel but I wasn't there when he passed. My g/f has seen plenty of people die as she is a nurse/practitioner in a big hospital. She doesn't talk a lot about it.
