I bought a hoodie the other day and the the employee guy at the register forgot to take off the antitheft tag. I've tried smashing it open but I can't and I don't want to damage my sweater.

LOL. I'm amazed at how many people assumed I stole this sweater. I bought this at Stussy in SoHo. trust me I don't think anyone can steal anything its very wide open. I have the receipt and all but I don't want to go all the way back to SoHo when I live in Brooklyn. Thats pretty long. It's not the ink type Im sure of that, its the magnetic one.

okay, if you have ever been to Stussy you'll notice it's small and the employees can see everything. I paid and walked out of the store it did ring but that happens sometimes even if I don't have anything. I looked back at the employee at the register and he nodded to me so I left. Then while I was on the train i saw it was still on and I was to far away to head back. I guess all first questions are "troll questions" then.

Give me a break, you're on here asking this instead of taking it back like most people have had to do at least once in their lifetime? And you BOUGHT it, wink wink.
Here is a novel idea on how to remove it, don't shoplift!!!!

Having read a few of the responses I would agree with taking it back to the shop you bought it from.
However, if distance is the main issue for you, try going into a local clothing store with your hoodie and receipt and ask if THEY might do you the favour and save you the trip back to SoHo

if you brought it and hav e the receipt, why can't you take it b ack and get them to remove it. Alternatively ring the store and see what they suggest. If you could a letter from them maybe you could take it to another more local store, with the letter and receipt and they would be prepared to remove it on their machine. Obviously the next time this happens take whatever you have brought back to the store counter to avoid it happening again. It happened to me a tescos but the security guard search my bag found the item, and I had the receipt to prove payment.

Sorry but this is SO obviously a troll question and if I'm wrong I'm sorry - please tell me if you'd be so kind ... if the employee guy at the register forgot to take off the tag, how did you manage to get it past the security barriers at the exit without the alarm going off and being stopped by the security guys?
As Robbie the Robot would have said in Lost in Space - does not compute ... at least I *think* it was him. :)

Woah...stop right now! The same thing happened to me a week ago. Take it back to the store and bring your recipt, show it to an employee and have them take the theft tag off the hoodie. If you try to do this yourself, your hoodie will be damaged.

If it's a usual pin through the garment tag, then get a screw driver and prise the tag open it should stop the magnet that is holding the pin. Or get wire cutters and cut through the pin. Or you need a very very strong magnet.

Take it back to the store with your receipt and ask them to remove it. Those tags are meant to damage the merchandise if not taken off correctly. It is a safety device against shop lifting!

Take it back to the shop with the receipt and ask them to remove it. If it cost you money to return to the shop then ask them to pay your costs - it was their fault they failed to remove the tag.
If store is some distance away, in another town for example check if they have a branch in your town. If not contact them by phone and explain their mistake and tell them that you will be posting the hoodie to them and that you expect to be returned with a refund of your postage costs and compensation for your inconvenience.
Some stores may even send someone to you to remove it.

Really, don't try to do this yourself. Some devices have ink bubbles and you will ruin the garment. Take it back to the store. Or, take it to any store and show proof of purchase (receipt) and usually any store will remove it.

Bless you, ask a simple question and get branded a theif. Call the store and ask what they suggest you do, they may let you mail it to them or they might have a partner company under a different name nearby that could remove it for you. Hope you get to wear it soon, it's so annoying when they leave those tags on!
