Hi,
the older Toyotas are a bit notorious in the transmission department, especially if you are a bit "heavy-footed" with them. They don't like it.
If the clutch is slipping & squeeking on a bit, then a new set of internal discs should do the job. Yet do not be persuaded that it a big dismantling effort. I have done it in the Mid-East at the roadside, with a bit of assistance in around 90 minutes
Of course, it may be something else. Does it go backwards rapidly without moaning? If it does, then forget expensive gearbox problems. Probably.
Not an expert mechanic, more of a power station bod, but I hope that helps.
