when i am choosing a best answer & i have a whole lot of answers i use it
i give a thumbs down to the questions i don't like so that i don't have to see them while i consider the good answers

Sure. If I see an answer that is right and at least as good as what I would have written I don't bother to write an answer. I just rate the answer up as +1. If the answer is so dumb that I would want to reach through the Internet and strangle the idiot who really thought that answer was true then I just rate them down -1.

I do when I run up on certain questions. For instance when someone is obviously leaning toward defending terrorist and terrorism, or being just down right vulgar and disrespectful to others, or just plain old being a dumba**!

Nope. I give bad answers a thumbs down - people who are being stupid or whatnot, and then people who are being helpful I give a thumbs up. I don't rate people very often, because it takes time and I could be answering questions instead. Like this one.
