i wrote this song, and i figured out the notes on the piano (not chords or anything, just your basic notes), but i want to find out what chords to use on guitar. i'm no guitar master or anything - i'd just like to be able to play guitar accompaniment to my singing.

Try the chorus first. In general, the first note of the melody line in the chorus is the name of the first chord in the chorus. So if your first note you sing in the chorus is G, your first chord will be a G or G minor. The second chord is a transition, probably a 3rd up, (in this case , C) then wind up back to the first chord again.

For the rest, just pick up the guitar and start singing while trying different chords. Write down the ones that sound good.

In order to play guitar chords for a song you don't have the chords to requires a good deal of listening. I'd suggest that you should download the song you want to learn chords to and listen to it until you figure it out. It's more of a instinct than something you can just learn. It is different for everyone, some people can listen to a song once and get it and others it will take a long time to get the hang of. Just keep trying and you will develop a sense of what chords to play especially if you already know a lot of chords. Start of simple and try more complicated songs as you go along. Goodluck :)
