The plant gets mostly sun during the day. It is in my backyard in San Diego, about a mile inland from the beach. It is watered well by drip system every third day. It is flourishing after being transplanted from another location. When it was transplanted (about two months ago), I cut it back and added soil ammendment and slow release fertilizer to the planting hole. One branch is loaded with very tiny greenish white flowers. They seem to be falling off before they fully develop (but they do seem to be opening). The blossoms are supposed to be very fragrant at night, but I don't smell anything. It has been getting cooler at night (60-68 degrees) here for the past week or so. Could this be why it's not fragrant?
I planted this plant for its fragrance, so I'm very dissapointed that I can't smell anything and would like to know if something I am doing is causing the flowers to drop, or perhaps the nursery sold me a mis-labelled plant.
Thank you

MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE

Hi neighbor. I had the same problem last year at our home on Mt Helix. only I moved mine because the fragrance was overwhelming in our bedroom at night. to much of a good thing so i moved it. after the move there was almost no fragrance until the next season.
when i brought this up at a San Diego MASTER GARDENER meeting it was believed that the disruption of the root system had alot to do with it's loss in fragrance. that in it's new location, the plant was busy using it's energy in establishing a new root system and the not using it for blooms?
that seemed to be the case as the following season it was as stinly as ever. Give it a rest & see what happens next sesaon.

In the San Diego vacation you'll stage external of one's safe place and you will discover new activities while you are here and you might only discover that exploring a new desire is definitely an experience in itself. One of many places must see from San Diego is Balboa Park. That park has over a 1400 acre and here you will find historic buildings, numerous museums, gardens, and green space. The park was created for the Panama California Exhibition of 1915-1916. The main structure is Spanish-Mexican model, low level buildings that merge with the normal surroundings. One of the highlights of the park would be the Botanical Gardens and lily pond, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Natural History, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the famous San Diego Zoo. Even although you never go into a building the park is merely an attractive place.

Ours bloomed quite late this year(in SoCal as did everything). Just wait before giving up on it. Make sure your screen door is open at night and windows. Sometimes it doesn't smell until bedtime. You might be giving it too much water, maybe not. Just know that once they are established Cestrum nocturnum is almost impossible to kill. They are VERY tough plants.

Good luck :-)

Sometimes plants that are supposed to be scented are not. But I have to add, luck you. We got rid of a night blooming jessamine years ago b/c the scent was so overpowering. My neighbors were also allergic to it, so we figured that we would be good neighbors by getting rid of it. It could also be that your plant needs to grow some more to be have more blooms and be more potent. Ours was nice till it got too big, then it was an overwhelming smell.

Wow. This looks before everything somewhat perplexing. yet i will supply it a attempt. Love isn't in finished bloom, nor does this point out one concern or yet another. Love is continuously evolving; it rather is merely as appealing whilst eco-friendly, earlier budding, & after finished bloom, because it is going by using the organic technique, keeps its splendor. yet--a flower that withers. replaced into it vulnerable on the commencing up? replaced into it nicely nourished? All issues enjoyed could be tended; whilst disregarded, they are perplexing to restore. possibly the flower replaced into never meant to bloom--for all of us? Why could like wither from "temptation"?
