I recently wrote a song and I want it to be called "Torn." However, a few years ago Natalie Imbruglia had a hit called "Torn." Do you think it's weird/unacceptable for 2 songs to have the same title? My friend (who also writes songs) thinks it's very weird and he said he could never name his song someting that had been used before. But I don't really think it matters because my song is nothing like Natalie Imbruglia's. What do you think?

There's nothing wrong with using a title someone else has used; it's common, and there are many examples.

Call the tune what you wish!

It's acceptable. There's so many songs with the same title, that it is impossible that there's going to be lots of songs that don't share a title. If your song is destined to be a hit, and be as big as Natalie Imbruglia's song, people will refer to the songs as your "Torn" and Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" to differentiate between the two.

There are several songs with the same name....For example "Dancing in the Dark," was by Springsteen and someo ther band.....There are several other examples. I wouldn't worry about it. I bet if you did a google search you would find that Natalie Imbruglia wasn't the first person to use that name either.

Letoya Luckett had a best selling top charted song THIS VERY MONTH called torn and alot of people enjoyed her song despite it being named after others. You name your song at ur preference since it came from your heart and mind

Letoya Luckett also has a song called torn but its ok to have more than one song with the same name. It has been done before for example there are a few R&B songs called baby

-baby by: ashanti
-baby by: r. kelly
-baby by: T.L.C

There is the standard Tangerine, and there is Led Zeppelin's Tangerine. I'm sure there are many other examples, but none come to mind. It's not unheard-of.

i think your friend's crazy it doesnt matter look at all the song in history with the name "crazy" or "cryin" as long as it doesn't sound like "torn" or have the same lyrics then you're okay
