The Ketchup Song" is the English title of the song "Aserejé" which was an international hit in 2002. The song exists in two versions, Spanish and English (compare Spanish version and English version), with the latter performed in a mixture of English and Spanish, described as "Spanglish".

The song describes someone asking a DJ to play the 1979 rap hit "Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang, but they can't remember what the song is called. So the person sings the chorus, which being in English confuses the Spanish DJ. The chorus is the chorus of Rapper's Delight, "translated" phonetically into Spanish (written the way it would sound to someone who does not understand English):

I said a hip hop the hippie the hippie
Aserejé, ja, dejé, dejebe
to the hip hip hop, a you don't stop
tu dejebere sebiounouba
the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
majabi tu de bugui
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
an de buididipí
The song was performed by a 3-girl Spanish Gypsy group called Las Ketchup, and had a distinctive accompanying dance.

The song was also remade in La Vida Mickey 2 by Walt Disney Records. In 2004, this song was including on the popular children's album series, Kidz Bop 4.

In Germany a popular political comedy program "Gerd-Show" took the music and made a parody to the lyrics, called "Der Steuersong" (The Tax Song) for the taxation policies of the former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder.

Seems okay to me I didn't understand the song when I first heard it back, but it seemed okay to me.

Since I am unfamilar with the chorus because it is in Spanish , I am sure your niece can perform it provided those in charge can understand what the chorus is saying and it is no vulgar.
I do know that it is about a spanish guy who wants to fit in style wise and rights a rap song about ketchup and other things that don't make sense because he doesn't have a total grasp on the English language.

It most likely means you were out of sauce way before you needed to be. Either that or you were being poisoned by the cafeteria lady with watered down ketchup your whole life and are just now having flash backs........ hey, you never know.

If it's the one I know, then it's perfectly appropriate for kids.

I wouldnt allow my daughter to sing that song...I wont even allow her to listen to it...I didnt know what it was so I just now looked it up on the internet and saw that most of the lyrics are in spanish so if you dont speak spanish you have no idea what they are saying...I think that our generation glamorizes sex in young girls and makes them believe that they can be sexy when in fact they are only little girls still I have several teenagers in my home and I make sure that they are well rounded...I hope that you do the same good luck
