I would imagine lots of guys get boners in the shower. No one needs to know why your getting hard. Just take deep breaths, and think of Oprah, then go home and tell your boyfriend you'd like to come over. (no pun intended)

It depends...
If it's a school age person we're talking about, they probably don't have much control over such things. If it's an effiminate teenager in school, the other kids will make fun because they are uncomfortable. If it's a masculine kid, the others will make fun because it's considered funny. Either way, they will make fun.
If we're talking about an adult, he should have more control over his body than that. No matter what, the other people at the gym will think something's wrong. What happens depends on who's present. If it's a burly guy with a bad attitude and a sense of homophobia, bad things could happen to the gay guy. If it's civilized straght men around, but well adjusted people, they will pretend not to notice, but most likely talk among themselves when the gay guy is not around. If it's gay adults there, they may laugh among themselves.
It all depends.

str8 guys are used to holding a towel, or something in front of their woodies, to avoid making others uncomfortable. Turn on the cold water if you are in the shower, str8 guys take cold showers to make a woodie lie down.

Some straight guys are offended and get uncomfortable by being checked out. On the other hand some guys take it as the compliment it really is. To me if a guy is good looking enough to be admired by both sexes then he should be proud. The bottom line is that all people are different in the way they respond in social situations. There are no absolutes.

Straight men get erections in the shower all the time. Endorphins from working out + nice warm water = erection. Gays and straights should ignore erections by each other in the shower. Neither signals any are attracted to the other. It just means that the person's body is reacting to external stimulus. It's no more the person's fault than it is when a kid has a surprise erection in class or when a dog humps in its sleep.

Getting a "woody" in the shower doesn't mean you're gay! It might be that you are thinking of a woman you just saw in the pool or the last playboy issue or maybe just hydraulics!
