he was incontinent. He told me over the phone and I didn't ask more, but I've been looking it up online and now I'm worried. What exactly does it mean, and what should I expect, if I continue dating him...

Incontinence means that he cannot control either/or his bladder and bowels. This usually means that a person will wear diapers in some form 24 / 7, I know, I'm incontinent and do just that.
What to expect? What you expect is that he will always have a diaper on and from time to time it will need to be changed. Does this involve you? That will be up to you to decide if you will help him and support him with this. This is something he has no control over and does not mean he is an AB (adult baby) or DL (diaper lover) which are fetishes.
Is it shallow if you leave him because of this? Yes, it would be. What if you were dating him and you developed breast cancer and had to have a breast removed and he left you because you weren't a "whole" woman any more. How would you feel?
It's what's inside when it comes to who a person is, not what's on or not on the outside. Diapers are just another article of clothing. We all wear underwear and outer clothing to protect our bodies and to keep others from seeing our nakedness, well he and I wear diapers to keep our bodily functions from ruining our clothing and embarrassing us in public. The provide a valuable function for those who cannot make it to a bathroom when necessary.
Grow up and become a caring, understanding and compassionate adult and realize that we all don't have total control over our bodies and be thankful that you do.
I guess a reasonable analogy to his wearing diapers and why would be why do your use either tampons or pads? You have a monthly period that occurs and which you have no control over therefore you have to wear protection. What can he expect? When you are together and if you are sexually active then he can expect to find one or the other being used during your time of the month.
With him it just happens that the diapers are an all the time thing.
Be supportive of his condition, he is probably self concious enough about it and be thankful he was up front with you about it. He could have kept it a secret from you for a long time, would you have preferred that?
Good luck to you both.

Incontinent means he has problems controlling his bowels and/or bladder. For men it is usually bladder problems. I don't know the age of the man you are seeing but this is a normal problem in both sexes in the elderly. If a man and any age has his prostrate removed, which is a gland that when he has intercourse tightens so urine stays in the bladder and only seamed and sperm are released. Many men even as young as 30 may have cancer of the prostrate gland and they need it removed. It is difficult for men at any age. As a nurse I would sit down and have a talk with him. He most trust and care about you to tell you something personal as this. Having incontinence does not change the person he is inside. If you love and care about him. It will truly mean nothing to you. But talk to him and tell him that you care and take it from there.

It means that he can't control his bladder or bowels or both. He will be wearing some sort of "diaper" for this. It means a potential of a back injury and unless he recovers, he will be in them for some time.
Is this something that you want to be involved with? Only you can say for sure. A fellow that I knew is a quadriplegic. He got married to a wonderful lady. She has her job cut out for her to take care of him with his needs.

It means he has either a medical or a mental problem which leads to his wanting you to change his messy diapers. I'd probably run. I know this is shallow, but I do have choice and free will and this is something I choose not to deal with right now.

It does mean he has problems of wetting himself. It may only be a small dribble now & then. He may have had prostate problems. I would give him a chance; seeing how he trusted you with such a sensitive issue. You have a choice now. You can leave, which will shame him. Or you can get to know him better & see exactly what is going on. It may be something simple.
Give him a chance. None of us is perfect. You, too, will has issues that when you disclose...will be a challenge for him to handle. Do you want his support, or for him to run out on you?

If you had the word right, and it's "incontinent", it means he wears diapers because he can't control his bladder functions.... or more.
