I'm as proud of my Southern Heritage as I am my Native American Heritage. My ggg grandfather fought for the confederacy in the Mississippi infantry. When I see the confederate flag it reminds me of where I come from.

The Confederate flag was one of many battle flags for the Confederacy. I can't think of one single reason why anyone would be offended by it. The Civil War was fought over states rights and not slavery. Most of the people in the south were ready to abolish slavery before the war broke out. If blacks are offended by the Confederate flag then think how Native Americans feel about the Stars & Stripes. Get over it, that was yesterday and yesterdays gone.

I live in GA and everyone I know black and white agree that the rebel flag is a symbol of our heritage and there is nothing to be offended about. If it wasn't for the "southern" slavery then alot of the blacks would not be in america where they live a free life. Saying that blacks should be offended is like telling a Cuban that their flag should offend them because it represents Castro. Makes no sense does it? Plus, why do ppl think that only southerners had slaves? Northerners did to, it just isn't publicizied as much because the north won the war.

Personally, I think it's stupid that anyone would be offended by the confederate flag. It's a symbol of southern pride & that's just what it has been forever. The reason black people are offended by it is simply because it was the symbol of southern pride back when all the slavery stuff was going on in the south. I think they just need to get over it & move on.

I the confederate flag is or should I say stand for the south and its ways. I'm black and to tell you the truth I don't really like that its still around and now some rappers are acting like it's cool when some people fought so hard to get the flag taking down so to me I almost see it as a hurtful reminder of the old ways of America but I respect those who see it in a different light but this is the flag that they put up in the civil war that in slaved African Americans made and that to me said that blacks were nothing but slaves so me my self I'm a insulted by it but yet I still respect those who see it in a different light.

The Confederate States of Amercia was founded on the premise that the states, not a central government, was the main political and military power. Hence, there was no one "Confederate Flag" under which all CSA troops fought.

The current "Confederate Flag" became popular with the resistance to desegregation in the 1950's, and in fact, was adopted at that time by various states to send Washington DC a message.

That's why it's offensive -- it isn't a historical relic, and it was popularized by the resistance to our civil rights movement.

I think the confederate flag belongs in the past, in a museum.. I believe it offends people because that war was fought and won. They need to let it go and be a part of the union. I agree, if I were black that and a whole lot of other stuff in the south would bother me!!!

I feel the Confederate flag should be forgotten (not out of disrespect for those people who died defending the nation it stood for ,but because of the perceived contention it causes now). It should be allowed to rest in peace just as the eagle emblems on the long staff carried by the Roman legions were forgotten. Any symbol of contention should be done away with. There is enough contention to go around in this world, there's no good in entertaining more.

I am very insulted by that flag.
•The KKK carried it around.
•The flag was used by the south in the Civil War and they were fighting to keep slavery alive.
