The rare python is too large for mice or rats -- and too small for chickens..

What’s with all the hostility?
Part in preserving a species is feeding it – most snakes will not eat dead things.
Some say they can train them to eat special sausages or guinea pigs – yet to see this work.

have you tried rabbits and guinea pigs? There are a few places you can buy them, im not sure about live ones though (their usually frozen). I remember my brother bought something called a 'daigou' or something? some kind of giant hopping mouse? I think it was kind of unusual though. I suppose it can get pretty expensive to feed it, but I hope you dont give up and abandone it or anything.

ok so I hope you mentioning "kittens and puppies" as food is a bad joke....
I think snakes no matter how big will be fine on rats.
But instead try giving him 2 or 3 rats..... I'm sure the snake will be happy and kitten and puppy lovers too

where the heck are you that you can get puppies and kittens for snake food???? Leads me to believe this is a joke... In all seriousness though, the next logical step from rats is rabbits (or guinea pigs), then small pigs or goats or whatever you happen to find... Rabbits are the largest easily attainable snake food. Get them bulk frozen... cheaper and they can't fight back. I've not had any trouble getting my snake to eat frozen (thawed) rats... If you have trouble you can start with a stunned prey item, then fresh killed, then thawed.

It's prolly illegal. But you're right, people buy cats everyday, and never have them spayed or neutered, the result is an over population of cats and kittens. I get where you're coming from, but cats would definitely harm the snake more so than a rat. It is different from feeding rats, and mice and bunnies, because those rats, and mice, and bunnies were bread to be feeders in most cases... Anywho, Hope I helped

Rabbits breed often and are a better snake food than kittens and puppies. If the snake doesn't eat them before they get too big I'm sure you will be able to find some good rabbit recipes so nothing goes to waste. They are also less likely to bite your precious rare python.

I wonder if any of the people who whine about kitties and puppies going to feed snakes consider that it would be a natural solution to decreasing the numbers of over-populated, abused pets.

Anyway, if you want to try a guinea pig, I just got a new one and my husband doesn't like him because he's not "cool and predatorial, like a hawk would be." Also, we're having a slight disagreement over whether to name him Oreo, or Walker, Texas Ranger. I'll let you guess which one of us wants which name. Anyway, he'd probably love it if you took the little furry thing off our hands, specially if he could watch it being eaten. It's all I can do to stop him from running out into our yard every morning and trying to shoot birds. (My husband, not the guinea pig).

yes there are, but why pay for something you can get for free? also feeding these unwanted and overpopulated animals will reduce the amount of animal that need to put down in the shelters and helps mother nature to reduce the amount of ferals that do massive harm to native wildlife. another point is why support the breeding of alternative feeder animals like rabbits when there already are suitable animals you could feed. btw guinea pigs are way to fat for a regular diet of a snake.
