I have a 1975 Kawasaki 900 and I thought I hooked up the carbs right but now I wonder if I indeed have something amiss.

Check the float level and to see if the float needles aren't leaking.
-Remove the carbs and float bowls.
-Attach an auxilary fuel supply.
-Either use tape or rubber bands to hold the floats up on the carbs you're not checking.
-Turn on the fuel.
-Raise the float. Adjust the float so the fuel stops when it's level with the carb/float bowl mating surfface. If the fuel keeps running, change the needle and seat.
-Make sure the intake valves aren't leaking.
-Remove the spark plugs.
-Bring a piston to TDC of the compression stroke (both valves closed).
-With an air gun, blow into the plug hole. Listen at the air box. Any hissing and you need to adjust the valves, or get a valve job.

My guess is that the float has a hole in it .when it fills with gas it drops down causing the needle valve to remain in the down position.
