BE WARNED if you start with a betta, you will soon want another fish, then another and another. Why not just make life simple and buy a complete aquarium kit to start with and add your betta to that. That way when the 'bug' does take hold you don't have to buy more equipment.

Betta fish are very pretty and come in a variety of colors. The are very easy to care for and don't require a filter or all that expensive equipment. I change the water once a week and they are fine. The only thing is they don't live too very long. If they live a year this is good. Never, Never put two in the same tank, because they will fight to the death.

Ya sure you can. But you can have only one betta to a tank as they are very aggressive fish and do not like to share their tank. They can also get very lazy and hide alot. So if you want more fish in future you may not be able to have them unless you keep them in a separate tank.
On the other hand, bettas are very beautiful and easy to care for. You can have one male to a tank as male bettas are more attractive than the females.

Please read up on bettas on betta talk before you buy a betta. They can easy live for 2-4 years (from the time you buy) if cared for well.

Sure, Why not. They are beautiful. Like Sarah said they're easy to maintain.
Feed, once a day. Clean the water at least once a week.
Just don't put to together in the same tank.

They are pretty fish with low maintenance. But you can't put any other fish with a betta. They are fighter fish.

They are cool. We had one for a year. I had co-workers that kept one on their desk and they would last 1-3 years. Do as Rocky5 says, also be careful of the water you use.
