About two weeks ago we bought a house and moved in. The house had been empty for quite awhile so when we had brown water coming out of the faucets, we didn't think anything of it. Now we still have it sometimes when we first turn the water on in the kitchen. We have city water. Any ideas what is causing this?

I would flush all pipes in house and check on the water heater as well. It might have a lot of sediment in it and might need replacing. Check with other people near you and see if they have the same problem and ask how they fixed it if they did have the same problem.

either the pipes are too old---the real old ones get rusty and then the water gets brown, or you have contaminated water

turn the water on for a few minutes they probably drained the fire hydrants and it got calcium and rust deposits in it.So just let it run till it comes crystal clear

Rust in the pipes - just look at it this way - you wont have any iron deficiency.
