I didn't take a single thing because I was planning a homebirth. I ended up having to transfer to the hospital due to high fetal heartrate and by that time I was heavy into transition so I didn't pack anything. My mom and a girlfriend of mine grabbed a bunch of stuff for me including some clothes for the baby and our carseat.

But if you're planning a hospital birth, I don't recommend that.

Just to deliver the baby?

I took chap stick, honey sticks, butterscotch candies, portable cd play with disc in it, tennis ball, lotion, socks, hair ties, and a camera.

For the hospital stay: extra clothes, two nursing bras, socks, slippers, baby clothes for the season, baby blanket, my perscription meds, 2 night dresses, shampoo, soap, conditioner, contact case and cleaner, hair brush, pen, crossword puzzle book, two novels, and a phone list of friends and family.

Everyone is giving good advice except they are forgetting to mention period pads, the maternity ones. Also I took my own diapers didnt like the cloth ones. After you give birth you may be extremely hungry, I was take some drinks and snacks or get hubby to bring you some in.

Me and the poster above are on the same wavelenth. LOL.

Clothes that fit you when you were 7 months pregnant. It sounds depressing, but you won't fit into anything else :)
Underwear - extra extra underwear!!!
Toothbrush & toothpaste - the hospital ones are gross :)
Slippers for your feet
Clothes for the baby to wear home
Checkbook or credit card if you want to purchase the nursery photos
Your drivers license/state ID & insurance card

Congrats & good luck - it's not as bad as people make you think. :)

Everything that people have said is great, but one thing I'll remember next time- bring lots of pads/sanitary napkins. I only brought a few, and ended up having to use the one's the hospital provides (which are terrible!!) Congratulations and God bless!!

Clothes for you to come home in, Burping blanket, swaddle blanket, car seat, make up for yourself if you'd like, hair brush. If your particular about what shampoo and things you use you can get travel sizes of that kind. Toothbrush, tooth paste. Clothing for the baby, the type of diapers your going to use ( 7 or 8 should do it). Bottles if your using them. Hat for baby, booties. Thats about it ...Make sure dad knows what you'd like for you first good meal afterwards...MMm thats the best meal you'll have!!!

you dont need baby outfits, they have some for you usually. and you dont wanna put on a onesie bc of the belly button. make sure to bring clothes for you to go home in (prolly the ones that fit you when you were 5-6 months pregnant). i brought suckers since you cant eat anything. camera, videocamera. socks. a robe if you dont like the hosp. gowns. dont over pack though, bc you leave with a lot more than you pack.

also, just a hint of advice. on the hosp. bed they have a thick pad that then put under the sheet, its waterproof. take that home, it was so helpful. when i was bleeding very heavy, i put it under me in case i leaked during the night. and also when my little one slept with us, she would throw up for the first couple weeks a lot, so we could put it under her to keep from staining the sheets. also, if we forgot to put it under her, and she threw up, we could just put it on top of where the stain was so it wasnt wet when we were sleeping on it. then we could just worry about it in the morning.

best of luck to you!!! :)
