what is on silver chains that let me know it is authentic

Look for a hallmark on it. Sterling is marked "925".

Take it to a jewler to have it appraised and when they said its authentic just say oh no I was looking for earrings to go with the silver chains and it won`t cost you anything..

The only TRUE way to tell if a silver chain is authentic is to strangle a werewolf with it.

If the werewolf dies, your chain is really silver.

If your chain is not silver, you're going to have one seriously pissed-off werewolf on your hands.

Some silver jewelry has markings on the clasp that tell if it's real or not. If you can't find any markings, wear it for a couple of days. If it doesn't turn your neck green it's probably real silver, or plated at least.

well, i think real silver has a goldish hint to it. at least my silver wear does.
