Yeah, I think there is other life out there. The odds are that there will be intelligent life out there somewhere and I hope we find each other. What a day that will be!

Life certainly is possible but to detect it is a tough problem. Our radio waves travel at the speed of light. So even the earliest radio messages have not traveled 100 light years and maybe undetectable. If a alien sent a reply is would take another 100 years to get back here. Some scientists want to look at some icy moons of Jupiter to see if their is some liquid water under the ice. That mission maybe the closest to finding life on another world in our lifetime.
Add on:
Humans are the most fragile beings. One hit from a comet or asteroid and that's it. There maybe a billion lifeforms elsewhere in the universe, but only humans here.

I am sure there must be some other lifeforms out there as well...but it's not the technology i'd count on...maybe we rely too much on that.maybe our souls haven't evolved enough.i mean, look, for example, let's say there's some very advanced race of aliens, with fantastic technology and all.imagine what would humans do if they got their hands on powerful weapons.they'd most probably wipe out the planet.and fast too.i think we need to "grow up" a little before we deserve to meet other lifeforms.and besides, we don't know everything about earth, and we want to explore other worlds?damn bastards, running out of resources...another theory is that maybe the aliens have primitive technology and can't find us.dunno why people always assume aliens will be geniuses with high-tech ships and all.this is a vast topic. :)

Well, personally i believe that there is no such thing as Aliens. Now I'm not being arrogant r selfish, but I just have another explanation of what might be going on. So many people have claimed to have been abducted and experimented on my Aliens. Some even say they saw the U.F.O. These people, when telling there stories will sound and look so broken up and shocked by it. They r so believable. Now I don't think these people are lying because too many people have had an experience with the intelligent life. Now, I think that all of this has occurred, however I don't believe in Aliens. You know what I believe it is? I believe it's the government! The government is so slick and smooth, they have the ability to fool people. I think it's the government in those U.FO's!

Mixing elements of Christian Mythology with Science - - - what if 'God' created all sorts of People all at the same time, using Earths own experiences as a time line - - - factor in about a Century for Earth to get serious about planting colonies on The Moon and then Mars, from those two places Interstellar travel will become feasible so all of 'Gods' people should meet up in about two centuries. But yes I definitely feel that there has to be life out there - - - all of those stars it would be too freak if this was the only place where developed. Peace

I agree. It's true, our technology isn't as great as it needs to be to reach whatever else is out there, it's so far away. Now, that being said, I won't be terribly disappointed if there is no intelligent life found, because that is tougher than finding life, period. But different life forms I am absolutely positive is out there. Wouldn't it be cool if there were some kind of life on Europa or whatever moon of Jupiter that is that has water or something below the surface?

It's mathematically unlikely that there ISN'T life on other planets. However, intelligent life on Earth occured through millions and millions of years of evolution and an ever increasing randomization of events.
To think of the odds that something like that could ever happen again would be mind boggling. In fact, the "freak" chances the world has taken to evolve us humans almost makes it hard to disbelieve a higher power.
But then, when you think about that number, whatever it might be, and then think about all the planets in our vast universe, it becomes more and more likely. Still, probably higher than a 1 in 1 billion chance, but there are so much more planets out there.
Now, scientists like to think in terms of planets being hospitable and conducive to life, but I argue that thinking within the realms of reality on Earth as we know it is foolish. We're carbon based organism. Who is to say that alien species aren't based on, say, mercury? Therefore, species could have evolved in all forms of climates, close to stars, away from stars, with atmospheres, without, and so on and so forth.
The fact that all life forms on Earth are composed of the same substances doesn't necessarily mandate that other realms in the cosmos are the same. It only shows the optimal conditions for life on this single planet. Scientists are the narrow-minded ones in the end.
Although, I always find it interesting that people refer to Earth as "primitive" compared to other beings in the universe. In terms of extraterrestrial visitors, there seems to be only one standard and believable visitor, and that's the simple bug-eyed alien we all know. For all we know, we could be the second most technologically advanced society in the entire universe. Or, maybe they just focused their intelligence in other aspects, like inter-stellar travel, because various fuels were more prevalent and available on their planet. They could be shocked and awed at, oh I don't know, a microwave.
So, to sum up the answer, as far as other life in the universe, I think there is no doubt. As far as more intelligent, intellectually superior life, possible, but most likely not in the sense that someone like George Lucas has imagined.
EDITOR'S NOTE: And just to make another, somewhat related point. As technology grows and measuremants more accurate, most physicists and astronomists now agree that the universe is much more finite than previously thought, as well as younger by a few hundred thousand years or so. So, the idea that it is a vast, ever expanding void is being replaced with the idea that it expands and retracts regularly (in terms of millions/billions of years) being more elastic than anything, and that new stars and such aren't being created all the time.
This idea somewhat supports the Big Bang theory because it follows more about what we humans know of physics, that things like black holes, massive stars and planets, would eventually create enough gravitational pull to keep the universe from going and going and going. And object in motion stays in motion until something stops it, like gravity.
This idea also opens up the possibility that there could be more "universes" out there. (Ever seen Men In Black?)

There is other life besides us, But one has to consider what ones own personal definition of what life is.
Just because they may not look like us, or be of some other vibrational tone, or composition (ie earth is considered to have carbon base life forms) does not mean there is not life some place else. Consider the fact that light is life...then consider where light travels to. And I do consider light a form of life.

Finally somebody who agrees with me!! I agree with you, it is arrogant to think that out of billions of other galaxies (which we haven't been to, so we have no idea whats there) we are the only forms of life. For all we know there is another (or many other) galaxy(s) that could have planets like earth with humans, not big green or grey things with eyes coming up out of their heads. Nobody (besides me family) has ever agreed with me on this. I cant stand sceptics that (despite any proof) insist that there is no way that there are aliens, or other humans.

I say that they actually come from Earth. They evolved on Antartica millions of years ago and retreated into the caves as the continent slowly slid down to the cold, dark arctic. They developed a subterranean civilization and they want to deceive and mislead us. This is why they give so many different answers about where their 'homeworld' is.
