I'm not crazy!!! I had this EXACT same thing when I was pregnant!! I told my doctors, and did all types of tests, and there was nothing!! I suffered from this for a little over half of my pregnancy. My Dr's. came to the conclusion that; pregnancy is very mysterious, and different for every woman. Some women have painless easy pregs, others don't. There are all types of unexplainable little aches and pains that we get at this time. I ended up just dealing with it. The pain was gone AS SOON as I gave birth, and it has never been an issue since(my son was born May 03 ). I would place a bag of frozen corn or peas on the area when it was really bad and let it get numb, and by the time the numbing was gone, the pain had usually subsided by then for a while. If you want to ask me any specifics, by all means ask!

I immediately thought of two possibilities.

One is heartburn or gallbladder pain. You can keep Mylanta in the refrigerator (the cold helps it work better), and take as much of it as you need. (The nurses at my hospital give Mylanta to laboring women with heartburn.) But I'm guessing it won't help much. Nor Rolaids, Tums, or any of those things. However, you can get Zantac over the counter now, and, with your doctor's OK, it's safe to take up to 4x the dose of regular Zantac or 2x the extra strength stuff. That might help. But it didn't help me forever. The next step is to ask your doctor for a prescription for something like Prevacid. I swear to God, I filled that prescription, and I never felt heartburn again. (And I'd been evaluated for gallbladder surgery because it was so painful.)

Another possibility is an intracaustal pain. This happens when you separate a rib. Maybe your baby kicked you extra good or just put so much pressure on you that something's out of place? Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do to relieve intracaustal pain, but at least you'd know there's nothing to worry about. Everyone I know who's suffered intracaustal pain has described it just like you did: "a pain right under my breast, that's intense, but not necessarily worse if I push on it, and kind of intermittent."

Worth a phone call, probably, but not a trip to the ER or anything.

Hiya, I had the same thing when I was pregnant with my first daughter. It was so painful just sat up in a chair. i didnt get it lieing down as such though. I am 23 weeks pregnant now and have exactly the same thing as last time. It started about a week ago. I would love to lie and say it gets better but my just stayed the same until I had the baby. Oh yeah my daughter was a big baby too. She was 9 lb 7 so having that in my tummy probably didnt help. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

hi, it's not heartburn or the baby. i've gone to both my ob/gyn & my regular doct about this. i've had an ultrasound as well as an xray. for me this has been going on for 2 months and the pain can get fairly intense

1. have an ultrasound & rule out gallbladder, lung & liver issues.
2. a friend just read that someone who also suffers from this asked her doc for lidocaine patches to keep the area numb. i'm calling my doct today to ask about.
3. if like me all your tests come back ok, lie flat on your back. it will relieve the pain pretty quickly.
4. don't be surprised if the pain gets worse.
5. don't be surprised if all the doct's & nurses file it under "things that happen to women when they are pregnant".
6. tylenol DOES NOT work. don't be scared to tell your doct that.

best of luck to you.

It can be a series of things nothing major, but I'd have yourself check out.

It can be your breast milk ducts.
gallstones
the baby presurring your rib or lungs.
or you might have a strained muscle which does happen.
Good luck

I agree with the previous answer. It sounds like a touch of heartburn. I would have it around the same area even hours after i ate and it could just be something light ie: applesauce. If it comes and goes i am assuming it is. Ask the Dr though. I pretty sure nothing too serious. No fever, discharge ect....

What to Expect When You Are Expecting is a great book. It tells you what is normal, and what to go to the doctor for. I never got pains like that with my son. Tell your doctor for sure. Just call and ask the nurse. She will tell you if she knows and if not she'll get you in to see the doctor as soon as she can. Take advantage of the doctor. Ask as many questions as you want. That's what we pay him for. Good Luck and Congratulations on your baby.

Sounds as though your breasts are preparing themselves for breast feeding. It would still be a good idea to bring it up at your next pregnancy well-check. The dr can tell you better what is going on at each stage of your pregnancy. Also a good book to read is "what to expect when youre expecting"

Could it be heartburn? I got that a lot after about 30 weeks.

Also, maybe just the baby's feet/elbow/butt getting in the way?
