assuming they are semester hours -

12 hours counts for full time, and 15 is a normal load to graduate in 4 years.

9 hours would count as 3/4 time for financial aid purposes.

each class is usually 3 credit hours, so 9 credit hours would be 3 classes.

a 3 credit class usually meets around 3 hours a week for 15 weeks.

Amazing how some of these answers are so far wrong! Duh.

OK, in the USA most schools go by semesters, so a semester is normally 14 weeks. Most courses are 3 semester hours - that means that the course meets three hours a week for the whole 14 weeks, So, 14 weeks times 3 hours a week is a total of 42 hours of class time.

Nine semester hours probably means that you would be taking three classes. Each class would meet three times a week for an hour each class, for the whole semester.

In most schools you need to take about 12 semester hours - that's four classes - in order to be considered a full time student. That is important because if you are NOT a full time student then you may not be able to have a scholarship or a government loan. Some students who are good at school take five or even six classes in a semester. They can get a double major or finish school a year early!

There are lots of variations on this. Some classes meet twice a week for 1 1/2 hours, some classes meet once a week for 3 hours. Some classes in the summer meet every day for four weeks for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The schools pretty much try to arrange things so that the class meets about 42 hours.

Some schools do not use the semester system. They might be on "quarters." Often the quarters are 11 weeks instead of 14, so maybe the classes meet more often or longer, or maybe they count the classes as "quarter hours" instead of "Semester hours" Things get complicated if they do that.

If you mean how many classes equals 9 credit hours... it's usually 3 classes (3 credits per class). But there are classes that offer just 1 or 2 credits.

generally speaking, a credit equals an hour a week; most courses are three credit hours a semester or three hours of class a week. If you have nine credit hours in one semester, then you have at least nine hours of class a week - probably consisting of three, three credit hour courses.

Nine contact hours in classroom each week of the semester.

Depending on what courses you take, it may feel like an eternity!

see above, also you can have non credit mandatory hours - such as a lab that you have to attend. Usually a credit = an hour, or two hours in some schools.
