No person can give you this answer. You have to go through it yourself to know. If we are lucky there might be an after life.
Hey, here's something to think about. Why cant we dream that we die. I think its because we have no previous experience. Anyway dont worry about it too much but if you really get freaked out just find a bible. It promises a lot.

Samantha, I recon you're a Brit (judging by the time zone and what you say in the 'add details section') and you're drunk!!!! (late Saturday night). Yes, you will die someday, but that's something we will all have to face eventually. No one knows for absolute certain, but I have seen at least some evidence of survival of the soul after the death of the physical body.
One evening, many years ago, a group of friends and myself had a seance. It didn't amount to much, as it was treat as a sort of parlour game, the result of this 'parlour game' was a bit disappointing. I was only an invited guest, so please excuse the disappointment.
The spirit that made contact had nothing to say but mumbo jumbo, but non-the-less, SOMETHING came through to communicate!
The table that was used, was less than ideal, as the people that rented the property kept it less than clean, and therefore, the table was less than flat!
Therefore, when the glass moved, it had to levitate to be able to move, perhaps 1/16th of an inch above the surface of the table.
Although the spirit could only speak nonsense, it was still able to move the glass.
It is the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed. It was like communicating with someone from another planet.
Although this isn't proof of anything, it's a strong hint that when we die, we survive in one form or other.
I strongly believe - partially due to this experience - that our souls survive death of the physical body.
Make the most of your life while you're able.

For those who don't believe in God...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Near_death
Why they call it near death, I'm not sure. From books I've read, some of the people had been very dead for a few days. One, I read in the 70s, had research from the 40s & 50s and the results were ground breaking. Their experiences all too similar, and included the tunnel with light at the end, dead acquaintances/relatives, getting sent back. And all before any of this "theme" was made public. Also, the subject's backrounds & religions were varied.
For those who do believe in God, my preference is...
http://www.biblegateway.com/
the bible. This sight has a whole bunch of translations. Which is handy, since the meaning of words have changed over time, like "fear", "cool", "gay", etc. And not all translators fully understand what words may have meant to the author at the time it was written.
And your are not a freak, just open minded.

Alright. This is bound to stir up some hornets. I was raised in a Christian denomination. As I grew older and changed churches and found that the word of God was different from church to church I started to look within for answers.
I feel there are no "mortal" Gods. Everything is energy based. We have an aura, an energy that is us. Plants, animals, anything natural and not man made has an energy. When we die it is reported that we se and are drawn to a bright light. That is God. It is me. It is you. When I die, I Willl become part of the whole collective. My life wil be intertwine with everything else. I will have greater knowledge. Later, when things here on earth are born, part of my energy will go into this. It will help to adapt to the changing world. People will strive for a better humanity because of my life experiences and others. It is a revolving door, recycling. I do not believe that the whole of me will be reincarnated into a whole something else. Only part of me and all that I have joined with at my death here on earth.

All will not accept this answer, But Jesus said, "in my fathers house there are many mansions, I go to prepare a place before you, if it were not so. I would not have told you so".
That is a promise that I hold on to.
Also to the people with science as a guide, look into Energy conservation, the first law of thermodynamics.]
In any transference of energy from one form to another, the total quantity of energy remains unchanged.
Energy is always conserved.
Of course this shell that we inhabit is going to rot like any other piece of dead meat.
The key word that I use is inhabit.
Ther are so many things to show you that you will never die, even if you want to.
I said you will never die, but this dust that you inhabit will be history.

I like one of the Buddhist beliefs.
At some point after death we enter a 'place' where we reside. There we are pretty well free to do and to live as we like, but at some point (I guess, after adjusting to this transition) we are taken to a hall which, as I understand it, is something like a cross between a theatre and cinema.
There, on the stage or screen, we get to review the life we have just lived through (man, there are going to be some bloody boring stretches).
There we get to see our whole life, and the effects that this life has had on others, the results of all of our decisions.
No one sits in judgement on us, we view this alone and we alone get to judge ourselves ...But, with open eyes as to the causes and effects on us and from us ...seeing and understanding why we behaved this or that way ...seeing our bigotry, our ego ...and those nasty little habits ...our deceits ...the ways we put others down and cause them the hurts we ignore, or simply tell them to 'shut up' with a 'Oh just get over it.'
We get to see what rather nasty self-centred creatures we really are.
Apparently, many, many individuals emerge from this 'hall' with very red faces.
If I get there, I'm not looking forwards to my visit.
As to whether 'there was nothing there before you,' there are arguments to counter that. Although now likely out of print, there was an intersting book some years back entitled, 'Life Before Life,' and which was about 'the life people lived before they were born' (in other words, 'incarnations')
Sometime this coming week, there is a TV programme about a small boy who goes to visit a Scottish island where it is believed he lived, in a previous life. There is some strong evidence to show that his experience is not too unusual either.
In 03, I apparently, nearly died on 3 occasions, though I was unconscious for most of three weeks and have no memory / experience of it (in hospital). From nursing friends, who have talked with patients who've had Near Death Experiences,' it clearly wasn't my time to depart this mortal coil.
Don't let it scare you.
Sash.

I believe that we are only on this mother earth for a short time, and that our soul is just in this thing we call a body so that we can learn , well we are here. I believe that we move on to a more loving, and beautiful place when our spirit leaves this physical body. Our souls live on and on. hope this gives you some good thoughts so you can sleep at night.

The spirit called you, that inhabits your body at present, will be reborn into another physical entity. Its shell (your body) will either burn or decompose. Your spirit, in it's next physical form, may have vague memories of being you.
It will continue this process for eternity (although some believe that it will only continue until it has learned all of life's lessons)

nothingness, eternal sleep. we have no souls.... There is no life after death. We humans can't seem to accept that we are born , we live and then we die. We compensate by dreaming that we will go on to something wonderful. You will not go anywhere after death, how could you, you will be invisible , you wont be able to laugh, smile, eat, touch, hug, cry, so what would be the point to float around somewhere like a puff of smoke. Your families would be puffs of smoke also and you would not recognise them or be able to hug them .You knew nothing before you were born. It will be the same. Its not what you want to hear that is why we make up heaven......

Why must someone have some idea????
Get yourself a job in an old folks home or a hospital with very ill people, you'll soon realise there are worse things than dying.
Make the most of the life you have now!!
