i have carpet that is glued down really good in the basement (so its glued down on cement). i have tried cutting it into pieced then pulling, but it is really on there good. do they make something that is machine run and works like a jack hammer with a wide blade that will shimmy it up?

You have to put grease on it.
Elbow Grease.
Ask for it at the homo depot.

Drink plenty of fluids.
You could also ask you local carpet and tile installers about contracting the removal part of your carpet out or renting the powered floor scraper machine for a day.

of course, scrape it up. they do make a machine with a blade, but you will have to rent it.
use a spade, or a heavy duty ice scraper.
you will leave some residue, but it all depends on what you are putting back down as to how clean you need it to be.
it is going to take some time and elbow grease.

i went through that once , i had to poor boiling hot water on it to get it up took a long time and a lot of scraping
