When I went on a plane last year, I took my phone. You are however told to turn it off. This is because it is belived to interfere with the planes navigation.
Some phones (including mine) have a 'flight mode' which turns off the phone part, so you can use if for games/music etc.I think this is acceptable to use on a flight.

Your right. Cell phones are allowed on planes. My info comes from my ex husband. He does alot of traveling for his job. He has been on many flights and has his cell phone. He just got back a few days ago.
On the news a few weeks ago or so they have banned things such as shampoo but that only applys to carry on baggage.
Also you CAN use your phone while in flight. It is only during landing and take off when you can't use it. Again my source is from my ex who travels.

You MAY bring your phone on the plane.... however, you must turn it OFF during takeoff, flight and landing as the radio frequencies used can disrupt the sensitive instruments used to guide the plane.

Well, I flew to Mazatlan from California last February, and as of that time, they were not banned. However, you will be instructed by the pilot to turn them off, and when to turn them on again. Things may have changed.

You can take them. Some airlines in some countries permit cell phone use on the tarmac as you taxi in. Look here:
